Nintendo Wii 2: Speculations and Rumours

Just about a month ago, all eyes were upon Nintendo 3DS, the only handheld device that is capable of 3D gaming. Despite the huge response the 3DS received after its launch, Nintendo is still focus and not celebrating yet, but is apparently working on another gadget, reportedly the Wii 2. Various rumours are now saying that the second generation of the once extremely popular gaming console may be releasing this coming June at the E3 Expo.

Honestly, response of the Wii has been at a steadily decline for the past 2 years as the spotlight are now on newer consoles like the Xbox 360 and the PS3, which boasts a variety of the latest cutting-edge technology for an experience even beyond gaming itself. So, are the rumours true, and what will it offer now to shine in such a competitive market?




Following the commonly-practiced 5-year console cycle, where newer generations of consoles are released after a 5-year period, there is an inclination that Nintendo will unveil the Wii 2 as it has been more than 5 years since the launch of Wii 2. However, there is a possibility that it may not turn out so as up till now, Nintendo has not yet officially announced the release of Wii 2, merely mentioning that they are working on it. As what President of Nintendo, Iwate said,

"we are always preparing for the next hardware, we are under development"

And only until recently, EA hinted that Nintendo will release the console this coming June. No matter what happens, when or where the launch will be held, I simply hope that 5 years of hard work and 5 years of waiting will turn out worthwhile.

Coming to the specs of Wii 2, with almost no knowledge on what to expect, I will just have to speculate on how the market is nowadays and what should be included in the latest video gaming console for Nintendo to stand strong in the gaming industry. First of all, with a terribly massive, competitive market to compete with, I am quite confident that the Wii 2 will be specially created to destroy the hopes of PlayStation Move and the Kinect.
