You don’t need to be a crime expert to solve this case. Once you begin as the protagonist Cole Phelps as a mere, regular patrol officer, you will know that a great deal of adventure awaits you in the impeccably reproduced city set in the 1940s.

Unlike the renowned GTA series and Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire is a game where you have to obey the law at all times and are requires much thinking. Well, for a start, you will be solving a lot of mysteries and it will not be easy. For most of the times, you will find dead bodies and unsolved cases awaiting your help and during the process, you are suppose to investigate and interrogate likely suspects, scrutinize every single detail of the crime scene (I’m exaggerating of course) and dig deep to find valuable, helpful clues. Also, you will find and speak to witnesses and innocent street-peddlers and serial killers, but you will never know who’s speaking the truth, and who’s not. Well, Cole Phelps doesn’t know and he needs your help xD During the interrogation process, you will be given three extremely, extremely simple, but difficult choices – Truth, Doubt or Lie.
The option tells us enough;
truth clearly means you believe the interviewee’s story and you then proceed. However, if you
doubt the story, you accuse him and continues interrogating him using a harsher approach; and if you choose
lie, you have to give a solid evidence to prove that your suspect is falsifying their account. Well, that’s basically pretty much how the gameplay will be throughout the entire 19-or-so-hours.

Here comes the revolutionary bit ~ If you didn’t know, L.A. Noire was the first video game to employ Facial Motion Capture Technology, which evidently succeeded flawlessly and much to my amazement, was even better than what I thought it would be. Let’s not venture too deep into the technical details and the boring stuff, but rather start off with this – you will be faced with an incredible accuracy when it comes to small, little details of facial expressions, mouth movements and nose twitching that will miraculously transform each and every character into a seamlessly real character. The best part is, the revolutionary technology is so essential that the game relies on it almost entirely for you have to figure whether your suspects are being truthful, or simply twisting the story just by looking at their facial expressions. Amazing!

| such realistic human-like expressions can be scary at times |
I have to admit this, Rockstar Games surprises me always and for the case of L.A. Noire, well, it arguably deserves to be the Game Of The Year. So, who's up for L.A. Noire 2? ;)
